Description
New Zealand's Motueka™ hop has a unique fresh citrus 'mojito' lime character, and is a versatile hop which works in juicy and hazy IPAs as well as lagers, Pilsners, and West Coast IPAs too.
Ancestry
Developed in New Zealand by what is now known as Plant & Food Research (Brand 85/6-23). A cross between a New Zealand breeding selection and Saaz.
Pronunciation: [morˈtuːeːkɑː] Tip: "mor-too-eh-kah"
Beer Styles: West Coast IPAs; New England/hazy/juicy IPAs; NZIPAs; APAs; pale ales; lagers; pilsners, as well as English, Belgian, and European Ales.
Motueka™ now available as an Amplifire™ Cryogenic Concentrated Hop Pellet from Clayton Hops™ in New Zealand, delivering intense hop expression while reducing waste and beer loss and improving brewhouse efficiency.
Developed in New Zealand, and produced using advanced cryogenic processing, Amplifire™ pellets concentrate the most desirable parts of the hop cone — the lupulin glands — where the resins and essential oils responsible for bitterness, flavour, and aroma are found. The result is a powerful hop product that can deliver up to twice the resin and oil content of traditional T-90 pellets.
Substitution Rate: When substituting for T90 Hop Pellets in dry hop, Clayton Hops™ recommends a 2:1 substitution by weight. Eg 500-600g of Amplifire™ Pellets instead of 1kg of T90 Pellets.
Carbon Footprint: As a weighted average across all hop varieties, Clayton Hops™ Amplifire™ Pellets - independently measured by BX of London - have a carbon footprint of 3.38 kg CO₂e, or, for benchmarking purposes, 2.81 kg CO₂e (composting emissions are typically not mentioned in industry benchmarks).
A higher concentration of lupulin means brighter, more intense hop character in your finished beer.
Improved Brewhouse Efficiency
With less vegetal matter, Amplifire™ pellets reduce wort absorption, helping you retain more beer in the fermenter.
Higher Yield, Higher Profit
More beer from every batch means improved production efficiency and greater revenue potential.
Smarter Storage & Shipping
The concentrated format requires less space, making transport and cold storage more efficient.
Reduced Packaging & Waste
Using a more concentrated hop product lowers packaging requirements and helps minimise brewery waste.
Lower Environmental Impact
Grown and processed in New Zealand using advanced, sustainable methods.
Reduced Risk of Hop Creep
By limiting hop bract material — which contains sugars and enzymes linked to hop creep — Amplifire™ pellets help reduce unwanted secondary fermentation.
Motueka™ is also available as a T90 pellet from Hop Revolution™ and in Amplifire™ Fresh Hop Oil from Clayton Hops™.
