Description
The New Zealand dual purpose hop Rakau™ is packed to bursting with big flavours - think fresh fruit forward, and has been likened to a "big bowl of tropical fruit". It's got a useful bitterness too, so works well in West Coast IPAs as well as hazy juicy pales and IPAs.
Developed in New Zealand by the organisation now known as Plant & Food Research (Brand 70-4-9), this hop was specifically bred to perform as a versatile dual-purpose variety.
Pronunciation: [ra'kɑʊ] Tip: "rah-kow"
Beer Styles: West Coast IPAs; New England/hazy/juicy IPAs; NZIPAs; APAs; pale ales; lagers; pilsners.
Carbon Footprint: As a weighted average across all hop varieties, Clayton Hops™ T90 Pellets - independently measured by BX of London - have a carbon footprint of 3.75 kg CO₂e, or, for benchmarking purposes, 3.18 kg CO₂e (composting emissions are typically not mentioned in industry benchmarks).
FASTER - Clayton Hops™ use modern and high-capacity on-farm harvesting systems, combined with a cutting-edge advanced hops pelletising complex. This ensures that Clayton's hops are picked in their prime and then pelletised and packaged quickly - a level of on-site infrastructure which is unique in the New Zealand hops industry.
FRESHER - Clayton Hops™ hop cones are pelletised and packaged very soon after harvest, ensuring ultimate freshness, and stored temperature controlled to preserve quality.
BETTER - Harvesting hops in their prime and processing them quickly results in superior quality. Clayton Hops has investing in a world-class pelletising facility with an enclosed and protected environment to ensure minimal exposure to oxygen and contaminants.
