Description
Made from locally sourced winter barley, this roast barley is produced through an intensive dry-roasting method rather than traditional steeping, giving it its strikingly dark colour and bold, unmistakable flavour that defines many traditional dark beer styles.
Highly adaptable, it can be used in varying amounts to produce shades ranging from deep reddish brown through to an inky black. Its flavour impact is immediate and pronounced, led by strong roasted notes similar to dark espresso and the smoky edge of glowing charcoal. A firm bitterness is supported by flavours akin to well-done toast, forming the backbone of its character. Beneath the roast intensity lies a restrained sweetness with impressions of molasses, caramelised sugars, and rich brown sugar.
As the flavour develops, additional layers appear — toasted nuts, bittersweet cocoa, and dark dried fruits such as raisins, prunes, and dates — accompanied by gentle hints of maple and dense rye bread. The result is a layered, full-bodied finish that adds both complexity and depth to darker brews.
Roasted Barely is suitable for dark beer styles such as Stouts, Amber Ale, Irish Stout & Red Ales.
